Reading Series
The Small Doggies Reading Series began in September of 2010, in Portland, Oregon. Hosted by Magazine and Press editors Carrie Seitzinger and Matty Byloos, the series was originally conceived as a way to bring the Portland literary community together with local and traveling writers from all over the country. On the second Tuesday of every month, the Blue Monk bar in Southeast Portland plays host to three writers and a musical guest. With no fixed point of reference, performers consistently span the breadth of literary styles, from academic and romantic poets, to performance-based writers, to experimental fiction stylists.
Past performers have included such notable literary talent as Lidia Yuknavitch, Vanessa Veselka, Derrick C. Brown, Zach Schomburg, Kris Saknussemm, Emily Kendal Frey, Monika Drake, Anis Mojgani, Ofelia Hunt, Elizabeth Colen, Matthew Dickman, Amelia Gray, Kevin Sampsell, Robin Romm, Pauls Toutonghi, m.g. martin, Joseph Riippi, Ben Loory, Alexis Smith and more.
As part of the Reading Series, a quarterly chapbook is produced, featuring a collection of works by every performer to hit the Small Doggies Stage during that time. Chapbooks #1 through #4 are currently available.
